Glasses Chain

Brass, Nickel, Malachite

This piece explores the act of seeing as a sacred gesture. One that redirects energy inward rather than outward. I created a glasses chain from brass and nickel silver, adorned with beads and stones repurposed from my mother’s old jewelry supplies. At the center of the hands, I’ve set malachite stones, a material once forgotten, now reclaimed. Malachite, known for its protective and transformative properties, becomes both an heirloom and a talisman.

In yogic tradition, we are taught to end meditation or rest by rubbing the palms at the heart center and opening the eyes into the hands, redirecting the cultivated energy inward, rather than letting it dissipate. Both the hands and the eyes are considered sites where energy escapes the body. Therefore, the hands in this piece are not simply functional attachments, but they are also a symbolic interface between body and spirit, vision and intention. Ultimately, this chain is not just an adornment, but a tool for reorientation: it asks us to pause, to hold, and to look again, with presence.
